If Paul’s “faith alone” position could be summarized, I think Paul would say: “Faith in God means depending on God to do things which are beyond human ability and believing that God will keep His promises. Faith in God includes doing right in God’s sight (obeying God’s laws) without regard for consequences. Question: "What are practical ways to depend on God alone?" Answer: Depending on God is basic to the Christian life. We trust in, or depend on, God for our salvation (Ephesians –9). We depend on God for wisdom (James ).
God desires for our faith to grow, and we are instructed through the Scriptures on how to develop a faith that conquers fears. Romans says, "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ." Studying the Word of God is paramount in building strong faith. To know Him and rely on His direction in our lives, we must seek. And in teaching us to depend on God, the psalm encourages us to do three things in particular: 1) Affirm the difference God makes in your life. 2) Praise God for his protection and deliverance in your life. 3) Tell others how God has helped you. I. Affirm the difference God makes in your life () So let’s take a look at the first of these.
Second, we see in 2 Timothy these words, “I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.” So Paul has already connected Timothy’s faith with what he got from his mother and grandmother. Psalm I depend on God alone; I put my hope in him. He alone protects and saves me; he is my defender, and I shall never be defeated. Read verse in Good News Translation.
